Kohli's 95 Guides India to Victory Over New Zealand

oct 22, 2023

Virat Kohli played a sensational innings of 95 runs to guide India to a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 274, India were in trouble at 151/5 before Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja (39*) stitched together a crucial 78-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Kohli was dismissed five runs short of a century, but Jadeja held his nerve to see India home with 12 balls to spare.

Kohli's innings was a masterclass in batting. He paced his innings perfectly, playing some exquisite shots along the way.

He was particularly severe on the New Zealand spinners, whom he swept and drove with ease.

Kohli's innings was all the more remarkable given that he had been struggling for form in recent months.

But he showed great character and determination to come up with a match-winning performance when India needed it the most.

Kohli's 95 was his 44th ODI half-century and his 27th ODI century. He is now just three centuries away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record of 49 ODI centuries.

India's victory over New Zealand was their fourth in five matches in the Cricket World Cup. They are now on top of the points table with eight points.
