Diplomatic Dispute: India and Canada Clash Over Allegations

This article is about Canada-India Visa Dispute Explodes: What You Need to Know! In a recent dispute between India and Canada, there’s a disagreement about whether agents from India were involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a known pro-Khalistan Sikh militant.

Last Thursday, India decided to stop giving visas to Canadians for the time being. They mentioned operational issues as the reason. A company called BLS International, responsible for checking visa applications from Canadians, informed everyone about this suspension.

This problem stems from Canada’s claim that they have evidence linking Indian agents to Nijjar’s murder. India strongly denies these allegations, calling them ridiculous and politically motivated.

We don’t know for sure if the visa suspension is directly related to this disagreement.

Even before this, tensions between India and Canada were high. During a recent G20 Summit in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi expressed serious concerns about anti-India activities in Canada.

Then, on a Monday, several months after Nijjar’s death, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau made a shocking statement. He said that Canadian security agencies had information suggesting that Indian government agents were behind Nijjar’s murder.

India categorically denied any involvement and expressed worries about Canadian politicians openly sympathizing with such elements.

India believes that these allegations are an attempt to divert attention from the fact that Khalistani terrorists and extremists have found refuge in Canada, posing a constant threat to India’s sovereignty.

As the tension grew, both countries expelled high-ranking officials. Canada sent an official from its Research and Analysis Wing home, and India expelled a diplomat for meddling in its internal affairs and supporting anti-India activities.

They also issued travel advisories to their citizens.

Canada updated its advisory about traveling to India, aligning it with the United States. It mentioned concerns about violence in Jammu and Kashmir and ethnic tensions in the northeastern regions.

After a meeting between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Modi, India advised its citizens in Canada to be very cautious due to anti-India activities and hate crimes supported by some politicians.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, aged 45, was tragically killed outside a gurdwara in Canada’s British Columbia in June. He was from Punjab’s Jalandhar and led the banned Khalistan Tiger Force, making him one of India’s most wanted terrorists. There was a ₹10 lakh cash reward for information leading to his arrest.
