The Central Intelligence Agency is working on its very own AI chatbot, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT (ChatGBT Chatbot). They aim to use it to help their data analysts find information in their huge archives.

However, they haven’t revealed the exact AI model they’re using or how they’ll keep their data safe from leaks. It’s likely that they’ve trained their bot with lots of data from their archives to help it understand the kind of information analysts deal with.

The U.S. Department of Defense also wants to use AI to speed up their data processing, as they deal with massive amounts of data and need to do it quickly.

Randy Nixon, the director of the Open-Source Division at the CIA, said, “We’ve come a long way technologically, from newspapers and radio to newspapers and television, and then newspapers and cable television. We’ve even moved on to the internet and big data, and this evolution continues.”

This new tool lets agents see where the information they’re looking at came from to make sure the AI isn’t making things up, and that the information is correct.

It will be available to 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the National Security Agency, FBI, CIA, and military branches. But it won’t be accessible to the general public or government officials due to national security concerns.

The U.S. government has been exploring how to use Large Language Models (LLMs) effectively. They’ve even set up a task force for this purpose. Gilbert Herrera, the Director of Research at the National Security Agency, said, “We need to figure out how to use these big models without violating people’s privacy.

This announcement comes at a time when China has publicly stated its plans to harness AI’s power and dominate space exploration by 2030.
