In the 2023 Diamond League, two Indian athletes, Neeraj Chopra and Murali Sreeshankar, had some great moments to remember. Neeraj Chopra, who had already won at the World Championship, did really well at the Zurich Diamond League. He took second place in the men’s javelin throw event, standing beside Jakub Vadlejch who won silver.

Neeraj’s journey started a bit cautiously. His first throw went 80.79 meters, but his next two throws didn’t go well. Then, something amazing happened. In his fourth attempt, he threw the javelin a huge distance of 85.82 meters! His last throw was also fantastic at 85.71 meters, securing him second place. He was just 15 centimeters away from Vadlejch’s throw.

Murali Sreeshankar also did something remarkable in the long jump event, where he jumped a distance of 7.99 meters and became the fifth-best jumper.

Neeraj’s performance in Zurich was important because it helped him gather points to make it to the final event of the Diamond League in September in Eugene. He had already won in Doha and Lausanne, so he was in third place with 23 points. He couldn’t take part in the Monaco Diamond League in July due to an injury but was all set for the World Championships.

So, both Neeraj Chopra and Murali Sreeshankar showed their skills and made India proud in the Diamond League.
