Today, on the 28th of September, we celebrate the final day of the 10-day Ganpati festival, known as Anant Chaturdashi. To make sure everything goes smoothly during the processions for immersing Lord Ganesha’s idols, the Mumbai Police have deployed over 19,000 officers.

At the same time, the weather department has issued a warning about rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra. They say there might be heavy rains in Ratnagiri, with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in some places.

Also, they’ve given a heads-up for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad districts, just to be cautious on this last day of the Ganpati festival.

In Nashik, heavy rain poured down on Wednesday, causing water to be released from various dams and raising the water level in the Godavari river, according to PTI. Because of continuous rain in recent days, officials had to release water from dams like Gangapur, Nandur-Madhyameshwar, Kadwa, Palkhed, Karanjwan, Waghad, and Darna. On Wednesday evening, a big tree fell on some motorcycles and a tanker parked in a Thane business complex due to the heavy rain, causing significant damage. Thane received a total of 3251.99 mm of rain between June 1 and September 27. Last year during the same period, it received 2795.62 mm of rain, according to TMC.

Sanjay Raut, a leader in the Shiv Sena party, criticized Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde for the flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the state. Raut questioned why the CM didn’t visit flooded areas and instead appeared to be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with Bollywood and Tollywood celebrities.

Speaking of Ganesh Visarjan today, an official informed PTI that the Mumbai Police are prepared to manage the large crowds bidding farewell to Ganpati Bappa on Anant Chaturdashi to prevent any problems. Traffic Police will make sure the processions run smoothly.

Today, thousands of Ganesh idols, both from households and public places, will be immersed at 73 locations, including Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Marve, and Aksa beaches. The Mumbai civic authorities have made arrangements for the immersion processions.

All processions in the city will be monitored closely with CCTV cameras, and undercover police officers will be in the crowd to maintain order. Separate control centers will oversee the immersion processions, the official concluded.
