4 Arrested, 2 Detained in Manipur Student Murder Case; Moved to Assam

The group includes two men and two women, along with two girls held in Imphal, the state capital. Swift action was taken, and they were all transported to Guwahati, Assam.
The names of the accused are Paominlun Haokip, Malsawn Haokip, Lhingneichong Baite, and Tinneikhol. Notably, Lhingneichong Baite is a friend of the murdered girl student, according to sources.

The Manipur Police, in collaboration with the Indian Army, conducted a joint operation to capture these suspects in the Churachandpur hill district, located 51 km from Imphal. This region has been witnessing ethnic tensions since May 3, housing various Kuki insurgent groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
After their capture, they were swiftly taken to the airport, where a CBI team awaited them. The group boarded the last flight out of Imphal around 5:45 pm.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated, “One may try to escape after committing a crime, but they can’t escape the long arm of the law. We are committed to ensuring severe punishment, including capital punishment, for this heinous crime.”
Mr. Singh also shared concerns about the involvement of terrorists from Myanmar and Bangladesh collaborating with Kuki insurgent groups in exacerbating the Manipur crisis. He sees the current violence as a clash between these external forces and the state.
Just yesterday, the National Investigation Agency apprehended a terror suspect from Churachandpur in connection to a cross-border conspiracy involving leaders in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Disturbing images of the two missing students, both 17 years old, surfaced on social media on September 26. In response, the Manipur government assured swift action. Although the bodies are yet to be found, the CBI is actively investigating the case, including allegations of rape before the minors’ tragic demise.
The images depict the two students sitting in the grassy compound of what seems to be an improvised jungle camp of an armed group.

In an effort to manage the crisis, the Manipur Police recently appointed a former special forces soldier to oversee combat operations.
