Sri Lanka Vs Australia
In the exciting Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Australia and Sri Lanka at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, rain unexpectedly paused the game. What’s intriguing is that during this rain break, David Warner, usually a star batsman, took on the role of a groundsman. The 36-year-old Warner had earlier shown his skills by getting rid of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis from the Sri Lankan team.
Sri Lanka Vs Australia When Rain Hits, David Warner Turns Hero!
As the rain poured down with Sri Lanka at 178/4 in 32.1 overs, Dhananjay de Silva and Charith Asalanka were on the field. An interesting moment during the rain break was captured by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and shared on Instagram. The video showed David Warner helping the groundsmen cover the field.
It’s important to note that Sri Lanka faced a setback as their regular captain, Dasun Shanaka, couldn’t play due to injury. Kusal Mendis stepped in as captain, adding more responsibility. With Shanaka’s return uncertain, Mendis found himself leading the team. Talking about changes in the playing 11, Chamika Karunaratne and Lahiru Kumara replaced Dasun Shanka and Mathisha Pathirana. Unfortunately, Pathirana didn’t shine in the World Cup.
Turning to the match, Sri Lanka had a good start with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera adding 125 runs for the first wicket. Nissanka scored 61 runs off 67 balls, and Perera scored 78 runs off 82 balls. However, things took a turn for the worse after they got out. Kusal Mendis, who scored a century in the last match, only managed 9 runs this time. After that, the Sri Lankan team struggled and couldn’t set a strong target against Australia.
Looking at the team lineups, both Australia and Sri Lanka had notable players in their playing XI, highlighting the competitiveness of the World Cup match.
