This article is about Tamil Nadu CM vs. Medical Bodies – NEET PG 2023 Clash! In the latest development from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2023 has been reduced to zero across all categories. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has strongly criticized the BJP-led Centre, asserting that it signifies the insignificance of the test and its disconnect from merit.

According to available information, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), United Doctors Front Association (UDFA), and Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) have welcomed the ministry’s move with enthusiasm.

On the opposing front, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has expressed its disapproval of the commission’s directive.

Stalin’s Dissent and Accusations

Stalin, in his dissent, conveyed on X, “By reducing the NEET PG cut-off to ‘zero,’ they are acknowledging that ‘eligibility’ in the National ‘Eligibility’ Cum Entrance Test holds no weight. It has become all about coaching centers and paying for the exam. Qualification is no longer a prerequisite.”

Expressing his disappointment, FAIMA President Rohan Krishnan took to X (formerly Twitter) and stated, “I strongly disagree with the strange decision by @MoHFW_INDIA, eliminating the cut-off for #NEETPG. @PMOIndia – this will only encourage corruption and high fees in private medical colleges. It’s shameful that any medical body supports this zero percent merit approach. The medical industry in India is up for sale, and merit is declining.”

Supporting the MoHFW Decision

On the supporting side, FORDA’s President, Dr. Aviral Mathur, issued a statement in favor of the MoHFW’s decision. He said, “While this decision has generated mixed reactions, it’s important to recognize its potential benefits.”

“In conclusion, the Health Ministry’s decision may have positive implications in the long run, considering the changing landscape of medical education and the opportunities it offers to prospective candidates,” stated Dr. Aviral Mathur in his release.

Transfer Request for Foreign Medical Graduates

Discussing the pros and cons of zero cut-offs in NEET PG 2023 counseling, health activist and National zonal coordinator IMA – MSN, Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, expressed, “Only those with financial resources will become specialists, while others with commendable merit will remain without seats if they lack the means. A student scoring 400 and a student scoring 0 will be on equal footing, illustrating the unfortunate situation for deserving candidates.”

Appeal for Transfer by Foreign Medical Graduates

In a concerning development, Foreign Medical Graduates have requested the transfer of Ukraine-Russia-affected students to another country to complete their studies. A Foreign Medical Graduate, Deepak Kumar, tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Respected @mansukhmandviya sir, you have the authority to allow MBBS doctors with ZERO CUTOFF to seek admission in PG. Sir, please grant a one-time exemption from FMGL regulations for #RussiaUkraineWarStudents so that we can transfer to another safe country to continue our education.”
